What I like to do in the Fall in Madison, WI

I was recently asked by Redfin for a few recommendations on the best things to do in Madison during the Fall, and I told them to go the parks:

– the Arboretum, of course, and anywhere around lake Wingra

– Olin Park, with it’s old oaks, and it’s view over downtown

– and Picnic point because it’s gorgeous and I keep finding new ways to enjoy it.

Truth be told, as a non-native who’s been around only 3 years, I think there’s more things, but I’m still discovering them.

And because I can let myself go on and on in this article, here’s a few more things I’ve done or I’m planning to do either this year or in the years to come:

– Taking a stroll on campus and find a spot to observe the students buzzing around, reconquering town,

– Still on campus, spending half a day at the Chazen museum – for a rainy day,

– Thrifting and treasure hunting at Vinny’s, Agrace, or one of the many other second-hand shops scattered around Dane County – this is ongoing, and I’m not going to stop, and by the way, that’s how I built our halloween costume collection,

– Having breakfast at Madison Sourdough on Willy St. on a day when there’s no school, or spending the afternoon cosied up in one of the Lakeside café’s armchairs

– Biking around lake Monona, though – the full loop is still on my must-do list… Kids do make it hard but I can still plan on taking them to practice their biking on any of the many bike trails around town

– one last kayak adventure on one of the lakes

What are your rituals and fall activities in Madison? Let me know!
