A family session in early November, in Middleton WI

Until today, this current Fall season has been unexpectedly warm – climate weirdness aside, I’m not complaining, I personally wish winter lasted only a month or two.

This stunning weather allowed me to squeeze in a family photo session the first few days of November. At first we hoped there would still be leaves on the oak trees – I personally never believed the foliage maps trying to persuade us that it would peak in South-West Wisconsin in the first week of November – but even though that didn’t happen, the landscape was epic. The prairie and the views at the Nature Preserve we chose to photograph at were so beautiful that we didn’t really need those bright leaves.

The location was Pheasant Branch Conservancy, in Middleton. We took a slow and easy hike up the hill, something the family might done without me, so it was perfect, real and natural, and the kids had a lot of fun.

For this session I used my Pentax 645 and my Holga 120N, as well as a 35mm SLR for fast candids. I wish I’d used the Holga more, as I always do, they are my favorite of the series.
