MARCH 6, 2022 // MADISON

Today I went with two cameras but ended up using only one, it was the Kiev88, loaded with Lomography’s Earl grey. My Kiev has some pretty heavy light leaks when used outdoors, but the optics are so beautiful, I’m fine with it. I almost regret loading it with black-and-white, I would not have minded these leaks in color.

I’m realizing that using two cameras feels safe in the beginning, but ends up making things complicated in the end, especially when they shoot different formats. At the moment I’m exploring the square in medium format, and it’s a very different way to work than composing in 2×3.

I met a lot of skaters, including very young ones, probably a sign of the spring, right at our door! However, today was colder than I thought it would be, and I’m glad I went against my initial instinct and stuck to my winter parka, I like to be warm when I spend two hours hunting for images in the cold. Today I came home with very numb fingers.

As always, people are very sweet when I ask to take their picture. That being said, the first person I asked was a young girl that had a very expressive style, and when I told her I thought she looked great and I wanted to take her picture she answered she didn’t like herself very much, and I though that was such a sad thing to answer. I wish I’d had some sort of come back just to boost her confidence, because she looked really cool.

That’s it! Until next week!
